TRANSFORMING LIVES

Cecilia’s Story

December 2nd, 2022

San José del Cabo, BCS

A Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative not only seeks to integrate ethical, social, and environmental considerations within a community, but it transcends the tangible. It involves granting opportunities to those who have never had them, providing a safe haven for children who have endured unimaginable situations, supplying goods, meeting basic needs of families in poverty, and leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who need it most.

In Mexico Giveaways, beyond being a company committed to the community, we are a group of individuals aware of the realities many people face. As humans, we understand the importance of personal space and the need for dignified and complete rest. That's why, as part of our CSR initiatives, there's the "building bunk beds" activity.

Through this activity, an extraordinary group of people came together and with great teamwork assembled 3 triple bunk beds and put together 9 kits of no-sew blankets & pillows, which were donated on the morning of December 2nd, 2022, to 3 families in our community of San José del Cabo. One of these families was Cecilia's.

Cecilia is an incredibly strong woman. At her 65 years old, she works ironing during the night shift at a local hotel. She is the mother of three young girls: two young adults aged 18 and 23, and a little girl of only 6 years old with Down syndrome.

Furthermore, she is a loving grandmother to three grandchildren: a 5-year-old boy with childhood diabetes, a 4-year-old girl, and another baby of just 2 years old.

Her family lacked the necessary resources to meet their basic needs. They used borrowed furniture from neighbors and family members and had very little pantry, partly because Cecilia used to run a grocery store in her home, but due to the lack of security and vandalism in her neighborhood, it was looted, leaving them with nothing.

It is admirable that, despite the circumstances and the significant needs they faced, they were beautiful and joyful people, always offering smiles and pleasant conversations.
When the moment came to deliver the bunk bed, Mrs. Cecilia couldn't contain her happiness. Her eyes reflected excitement, and hope gradually returned to her as she uttered a sincere "thank you." It was the most genuine, honest, and human gratitude we had ever heard.

In that instant, we knew that the collective efforts had been worthwhile. That the CSR activity, the wonderful group of people who assembled the bunk beds, and the support of our team had transformed Cecilia's life.

"The night before the delivery, I couldn't sleep due to the excitement of thinking that help was coming for my family. Thank you very much. I have no words to express my gratitude. Everything will work for me, the bed, everything. God bless you," Cecilia expressed in the following days.

As a culmination of sharing the touching story of this incredible mother and grandmother, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the big-hearted companies that have joined forces to make a difference.

Stories like these invite us to be agents of change through our CSR activities, always remembering that the most important thing is to be aware of unknown realities and that together we can make a difference.
